Submission Guidelines

The ACOP eJournal submission guidelines are in accordance with those established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with Uniformed Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Medical Journals, established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance withthese guidelines or with the recommendations described in the 9th edition of theAmerican Medical Association Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors (1998)

Manuscript Submissions
Every manuscript submitted for consideration must be accompanied by a cover letter addressed to the appropriate ACOP eJournal Subspecialty Editor, a completed Manuscript Submission Checklist and the manuscript in Microsoft Word format with all accompanying graphic elements provided as separate graphic files. The cover letter must clearly list the type of submission (Topic Review, AOBP Board Review, Invited Manuscript, Case Presentation, Medical Education Article, or Letter to the Editor), the full name and earned academic degrees of each author, institution, city, state and each author must sign and date it. For manuscripts based on survey data, a copy of the original survey should be submitted.

All authors must provide a written disclosure of potential conflicts of interest, including specific financial associations relevant to the subject of their paper or other possible conflicts of interest. Authors who have no relevant financial associations related to the subject of their manuscripts should provide a statement that they have no such association and conflict of interest. Your manuscript will not be considered if these criteria are not met.

All authors are required to submit with their Manuscript Submissions, a signed Article Submission Agreement with Exhibit A – Contributor’s Agreement and Exhibit B – Short Form Assignment, prior to the article being published in the ACOP eJournal. CLICK HERE for the Agreement and Exhibits.

The ACOP eJournal prefers to receive submissions electronically. Authors may e-mail manuscripts and accompanying materials to the appropriate ACOP eJournal Subspecialty Editor and copied to the Editor in Chief. CLICK HERE for the Subspecialty Editors Contact information. Manuscripts submitted electronically should be formatted in Microsoft Word for Windows (.doc) or rich text format (.rtf). When submitting manuscripts via e-mail, immediately fax the completed signed cover letter to the ACOP eJournal Subspecialty Editor at Fax (804) 282-0090. Manuscripts and materials submitted via regular mail should be addressed to the ACOP eJournal American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, 2209 Dickens Road, Richmond, VA 23230-2005. When mailing a submission, authors must provide the manuscript and all graphic elements on an IBM-compatible CD-ROM, DVD or thumb drive. The media should be clearly labeled with the type of submission, submission date, document title, and the corresponding author's full name and complete contact information. All drugs should be identified in text by their nonproprietary or chemical names. All images, tables and charts should be provided as clearly labeled separate graphic files as well as being included in your manuscript. Graphic files, tables and charts should be in Greyscale, RGB or Index color, 72 dpi and no wider that 462 pixels. Equipment and products should be identified by nonproprietary descriptors, including the manufacturers' names and locations (ie, city, state, country). For expressions of time, a dosage, or a unit of measure, use the numeral. For other quantities, spell out numbers nine or less. Also, spell out numbers if they begin a sentence.

Whether submitting a manuscript by e-mail or regular mail, the corresponding author should retain a backup copy of the manuscript's electronic file for future reference. There are no restrictions on word count (except abstracts, which are limited to 350 words) or the number of references or graphic elements, such as figures or tables. Original manuscripts and their accompanying materials will not be returned to corresponding authors unless self-addressed stamped envelopes are included with the original submissions.

Previous Publication or Simultaneous Submission
The ACOP eJournal accepts manuscripts for consideration with the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere in any medium and that they are not simultaneously under consideration by any other print or electronic publication.

Editorial Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to the ACOP eJournal are first reviewed by the ACOP eJournal Subspecialty Editors. The Subspecialty Editor will then be forward their recommendation to the Editor in Chief for possible publication in ACOP eJournal.

Public Registration
For manuscripts on phase 3 clinical trials, the trials must be registered with at least one public registry. Other trials involving human subjects, including pilot studies, must be registered if they have at least one prospectively assigned concurrent control or comparison group. Authors may register their studies with any trials registry that is electronically searchable and accessible to the public for free. In addition, the registry must be open to all registrants, it must be not for profit, and it must have a mechanism to ensure the validity of the registration data. Authors must provide the name of the public registry they use with information on the 20 items that the World Health Organization identified in 2004 as the minimal registration data set (see www.icmje.org/clin_trialup.htm for more information).

Editorial Processing
All accepted manuscripts are subject to editing and abridgement. Such editing takes place after manuscripts undergo review and acceptance. As a means of maintaining editorial and quality standards, the ACOP eJournal 's manuscript editors may revise accepted manuscripts for clarity, organization, grammar, syntax, conformity to house style and format, and adherence to preferred terminology, nomenclature, and spelling.
