Happy New Year ACOP members! As we finally put 2020 truly into hindsight and turn our sights towards an exciting, and hopefully brighter, 2021, now is a great time to look back on what we as a community accomplished in light of the unprecedented year that was 2020.  As a specialty college, we began to step further into the realm of current events, standing up against systemic racism, advocated for COVID relief, and supported our fellow DO’s and particularly our female DO’s against inaccurate and misleading portrayals in the media and advertising.

Though we had to forgo our annual Spring meeting during the first peak of the coronavirus pandemic, our CME Committee was able to switch gears and put together a fantastic, all virtual, Fall CME Conference, spread over two weekends in November and December. Those of us who tuned in were provided with talks from experts in their respective fields from all across the country, covering topics from Pain Management to Dealing with and Speaking About Racism. I think I can speak for all of us in attendance that we all came out of these weekends refreshed, educated, and with a new perspective on our roles in the greater community as leaders. If you missed this opportunity, there are summaries of each session in this issue, so keep reading.

We also took our time in quarantine to finally roll out our new feature for members, the ACOP Pedscast podcast series. Though still in its infancy, we hope to continue building on this project, based on your recommendations, to eventually provide you with a regular source of information easily accessible from wherever you listen to podcasts.

We welcomed a new Editor-in-Chief to the ACOP eJournal and continue to put out high quality articles highlighting our members’ work in advancing the field of osteopathic pediatrics, and supporting new scientific research firmly grounded in the principles of osteopathic medicine.  We are continuing our work to apply for PubMed accreditation, and I believe Dr. Timothy York, will be the perfect person to carry us across that finish line.

All in all, 2020 was very productive and successful though an unusual year for all of us, and we are looking forward to an equally exciting and successful 2021. As we move forward as the combined Communication and Advocacy Committee, we hope to remain a voice for the ACOP and our patients in every way possible.

As always, our “doors” are always open for you to reach out to us to tell us how we are doing, make suggestions on how we can improve, or to find out ways to get more involved.

Here’s to a happy and HEALTHY 2021!!
