Student Club News
In each issue of the PULSE, we will shine a spotlight on a new ACOP Pediatric Student Club. This issue features a Student Club that was founded four years ago at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, a new osteopathic medical school in New Mexico. The leaders of their Club submitted the following to showcase their activities.

On August 16th, we had our first “mini med school event” for the 2019-2020 year, with a turnout of over 100 students at J. Paul Taylor Academy in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We had help from over 50 volunteers that day to entertain the elementary school students and teach them about the human body. This was a memorable way to kick start the year, and we were able to showcase new stations to implement into our mini med school “curriculum”. We normally have stations to teach children about CPR, general anatomy of the body (with our lovely model, Anatomy Bob), coloring to explain the GI/heart, anti-bullying station and a station to explain splinting and doctor tools. This time around, we had a handwashing station, respiratory/pulse-ox station and a musculoskeletal “Simon Says” to help kids learn about the different muscles in their body.
We will continue to do Mini Med schools throughout the year, with one more event coming in December.
