Hey everyone! ACOP VCOM Carolinas here! Just wanted to talk about some of our club activities. For the past few years, we have been involved in the PLAY program with a local elementary school. Twice a month, a group of volunteers meets up with the afterschool third graders to play some organized games and learn about healthy living. Each of the kids has a Fitbit that tracks their steps and they love sharing how they get their steps every day! They also love showing off their dance moves at the end of every PLAY session! In addition, we partner with our Sports Medicine Club to volunteer with Miracle League here in Spartanburg. Everyone partners up with a buddy and we help them run the bases and play catch! The kids love getting to pick their buddy and we always have a great time listening to their stories and watching them light up as they get to play! In October, we have our big event coming up! Every year we run a Peds Fair around Halloween and we have people dress up as well as different stations where kids can practice stitching up stuffed animals and they can listen to heart sounds. We also have face painting, Safe Kids, a photobooth, and last year we even had a helicopter appearance! The kids love getting to come learn and play!

Wellness Warriors – UNECOM's ACOP chapter started a health and wellness initiative at our local intermediate school this past Spring 2019. The school was lacking health and wellness education with only one gym class per week and little emphasis on a healthy diet, so we decided to do something about it! We developed and taught an eight-week curriculum to three classes of fourth and fifth graders, instilling healthy habits at an early age and showing them what it means to make healthy choices in all aspects of life. In the setting of rising childhood obesity and diabetes rates, we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to make a difference in these kids’ lives. The program was so well received that we are back for another semester of molding healthy young Wellness Warriors!
