Greetings and Happy Summer ACOP members, and welcome to the ACOP PULSE quarterly online newsletter for the Spring Quarter. I want to take a moment to introduce myself to you as the new editor of this newsletter. My name is Jason Jackson. I am a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, where I quickly found a home in the membership of the ACOP.
Throughout my pediatrics residency at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and neonatology fellowship at the University of Rochester, this organization has served as a continuous source of support, guidance, and encouragement to help me to become the physician and person I am today. It is with great honor that I now take the helm of this publication as we continue to inspire the next generation of pediatricians-in-training. While you will continue to get first class scientific research articles in our quarterly eJournal, we hope you will continue to tune into to this publication to learn more about what makes the ACOP so unique--our members!
As we have all navigated the uncertain times of the past few months, I hope we have all taken a moment to also see what positive could come from this experience; to take fewer things for granted, to find creative ways to remain active and engaged, to learn the importance of slowing down and enjoy time with family or in nature, and most importantly, to cherish moments of togetherness even if webcams and green screens are needed. This issue of the PULSE touches on some of these topics and many others as we explore the humanistic side of the COVID crisis and find within it signs of hope.
Another positive outcome of our work-from-home time has been the ability to increase our virtual presence by offering virtual CME and committee meetings. We hope to continue building on this to create an electronic library of resources including podcasts and video blogs to help keep us connected as a community.
We are always looking for members to join us as contributors or you may even find yourself as the guest on one of our upcoming ACOPedscast episodes!
We want to hear from you! Let us know what type of material you would like to us cover in our publications and broadcasts. We wouldn’t be the organization we are without our members, and we want the messages we put out to exemplify that… because it comes from you.
Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and sunny Summer!
