I want to thank Alissa Craft, DO, MBA, FACOP for assuming the editorship of our PULSE.  This newsletter is an important forum where our members learn about events within our college. I look forward to her leadership in continuing to develop the content and the format of our PULSE in the future.

Several exciting things are happening in our college that I am happy to share with all of you.  I will continue to use the PULSE as a means to disseminate this information to all of our members.

First, we were successful in having our resolution approved by the AOA House of Delegates this July. Our resolution called for the AOA to apply to the ACCME to become approved to offer AMA PRA Category 1 credits. This will mean that physicians can obtain both AOA and AMA PRA CME credits for meetings that obtain this recognition. The ACOP will utilize the AOA as the sponsoring agency to allow us to offer this at future meetings after the application process is completed. The resolution still needs to be approved by the AOA Finance Committee to determine the financial impact, but the resolution called for an expedited process to be used in this review.

Second, we are forming a committee that will oversee assisting pediatric residencies in obtaining “Osteopathic Recognition” under the new ACGME standards. This committee will establish a site where programs can get all of the information they need to complete this application. We will be linking them to resources including educational materials for their residents and reviewers that will preview the applications before they are submitted.  We have several of the components that they will need to be in compliance with the standards including our POMT modules and pediatric OMM training sessions at our educational conferences. Members from our certifying board will also assist so that we can establish the standards required to reach this threshold.

Third, we have reached an agreement with the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Osteopathic Physicians to have a joint conference in April 2018. This session will offer both 1-A AOA CME hours and AMA PRA Category 1 credits to attendees. The meeting will be held in the beautiful city of Fort Myers, FL at the Sanibel Harbour Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. The title of the conference will be: DOing Education Together: Incorporating Osteopathic Medicine into your Pediatric Practice.

Please make every effort to attend our upcoming educational track at OMED 2017 in Philadelphia this October.  We have an exciting and engaging program for all of the attendees which will include pediatric OMM workshops and joint sessions with our colleges of obstetrics and gynecology and the American Academy of Osteopathy. Posters submitted from our various college and residency programs will be presented in sessions with moderators to help in the discussions.

The success of our professional college depends on all of our active participation. We owe thanks to the many members of our college that work on our important committees doing the work of our college. If you are not on a committee, please consider becoming a member of one of our many committees that help move forward the agenda of osteopathic pediatricians.

I will see you in Philadelphia!
