Viola M. Frymann, DO

Viola M. Frymann, DO, groundbreaking osteopathic physician, died January 23, 2016, at the age of 94. Dr. Frymann was a pioneering physician, researcher, advocate and beloved educator. She founded the Osteopathic Center for Children with a goal to help “every child reach their potential” and subsequently Osteopathy’s Promise to Children which provided educational courses for DOs, MDs and DDS’s. Dr. Fryman helped reestablish osteopathic licensure in California and the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA.

Dr. Fryman was a tireless educator. In addition to educating multiple generations of US Osteopathic physicians, she taught regularly in France, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, England, China, Japan, Latvia, Russia, Australia and Denmark. She is internationally recognized for groundbreaking research on cranial manipulation, with a special emphasis on the evaluation and treatment of newborns, especially special needs children. In 1998, the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) published her collected works. There are few, if any, osteopathic physicians who have not been taught by Dr. Frymann or a student of Dr. Frymann.
