Dr. Abo is an EMS and emergency physician and toxinologist currently practicing in Naples, Florida and is an assistant professor for Florida State University School of Medicine. He currently has a number of roles including Medical Director for Gainesville Fire Rescue, Naples Fire Rescue, Sanibel Fire Rescue, Captiva Fire Rescue, Pine Island Fire Department, Lake County Fire Rescue’s Venom 2 Venomous Response Unit, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Venom One and USAR Florida Task Force 1. He also serves as medical director and CMO for Rescue Company 1 and the Florida Helo-Aquatics Rescue Team. He has experienced EMS and emergency medicine around the globe with a number of philanthropic ventures, consulting, and serving as medical director and lead medical consultant for a variety of television and movie productions including Shark Week, National Geographic, Shark Attack Files, and his own show, Kings of Pain. He continues to be extremely active in emergency and EMS After 25 years with research, education, speaking engagements, consulting, national and international committees as well as active field response. A recipient of NCEMSF’s EMS Provider of the Year for Heroism and Valor in addition to Touro University’s Inaugural Alumni Lamplighter Award, Dr. Abo proudly served as National Student Liaison for ACOP as a student at Touro California where he walked with honors for osteopathic medicine and public health. Furthermore, he served as the Co-Founder and Pilot External in the Carolina Wilderness EMS Externship where he is now an active instructor. More recently, Dr. Abo co-founded the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation and serves as honorary medical director of the Surfers Medical Association.

Professor Debra Chopp directs the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School and serves as the Associate Dean of Experiential Education. Her research, teaching, and legal practice focus primarily on education law, family law/domestic violence, and cross-cultural communication. Professor Chopp has presented on these and other topics at local, state, and national conferences. She also provides regular trainings to medical providers on patient advocacy, special education, and social determinants of health. As the director of the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic, Professor Chopp works with medical providers and law students to provide free legal services that address the social determinants of health of families and improve child health. She earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania and her BA from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic, Professor Chopp represented survivors of domestic violence as an attorney for Sanctuary for Families: Center for Battered Women's Legal Services in New York.

Dr. McIntosh was graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, in 1970. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Yale-New Haven Medical Center and the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth. While working at the Naval Hospital he served on the Child Advocacy Committee addressing allegations of abuse involving Navy dependents. Later, while serving as Chief of Pediatrics at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Jacksonville, his work brought him in contact with the local Child Protection Team. Upon leaving active duty in 1984 he was invited to become a medical consultant with, and later Medical Director of, the Jacksonville CPT. When the American Academy of Pediatrics created the new sub-board specialty in Child Abuse Pediatrics in 2009, he joined the first class of board-certified Child Abuse Pediatricians. He was appointed Statewide Medical Director for Child Protection in 2016 and retired in 2020.

During that period I was honored to serve on the board and eventually as President of ACOP. Once retired from the Navy I transitioned to CCHMC where I practiced Pediatric Emergency Medicine and was Medical Director for the Pediatric Urgent Cares. Just prior to my retirement from Clinical medicine I joined 5 other women and we founded the Society for Pediatric Urgent Care. I was honored to be the first president.

Dr. Kaari is a section head, community pediatrician and educator at Cleveland Clinic Hudson Medical Outpatient Center in Hudson, Ohio. Prior to that she was a department chair, pediatrician and educator at Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ for 18 years. She has been active in ACOP since 2004 and is the immediate past president. Dr. Kaari is a 1998 graduate of Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly UMDNJ) . She completed her internship and residency at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, The Children's Regional Hospital in Camden, NJ in 2001.

Erin Thornley, DO FAAP is currently a 3rd year Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellow at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2017 and completed her Pediatric Residency training at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in 2020. She currently serves as the Fellow Representative to the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) Board of Trustees. Her current research focuses on host-pathogen interactions in pediatric Staphylococcus aureus infection with an emphasis on pathogen alteration of the host immune response.

Bio

Tyree Winters, DO, FACOP, FAAP is the Pediatric Residency Program Director, DEI Lead Physician for Department of Pediatrics and Medical Director of the Overlook Medical Center Pediatric HealthStart Clinic. Dr. Winters is committed to community pediatrics and child advocacy and maintains a special interest in helping youth combat obesity. To that end, he created a dance exercise program for kids and adopted the moniker “Dr. Tye: Hip Hop Dance Doc.” As Dr. Tye, he has been featured in a variety of media, both Dr. Winters serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians. Additionally, he is the Chair for the Under-Represented in Pediatric Graduate Medical Education Learning Community for the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. Dr. Winters received his BA from the University of Michigan and his DO from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

Jasmine Yu, MS is an OMS-II student at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is part of the Digital Health Honors Track, the first and only longitudinal program dedicated to additional digital health training for student physicians. Prior to medical school, she received her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Her current research interests focus on improving medical education curriculum, enhancing student communication skills through improv, as well as evaluating substance use trends pre- and peri- COVID.
