Welcome to the Fall 2021 American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) Virtual Conference: Advocacy and Collaboration!
While we are again physically distanced, we can learn together and build stronger communities with the knowledge we will be gaining during this 3-day event!
During the conference, we will be covering a wide range of topics. We will start with an empowering session on advocating for our osteopathic pediatric profession as well as for our patients. Next, we will discuss bullying and hear from a patient about her and her family’s personal experience as victims of discrimination and hatred. In the last session of the afternoon, we will discuss COVID vaccine updates and hesitancy and will be permitted to learn first-hand from someone who grew up in an anti-vaccination household about the choices she made when she became an adult in regard to her own preventive care.
On Saturday, we start our day reviewing the new ADHD and depression guidelines and then discuss collaborating for adolescent mental health issues. We will then learn from our colleagues in the dental world about the uses of fluoride in the office and the basics of orthodontics. Our afternoon will be filled with dermatology issues, particularly focused on the children who are under-represented in the textbooks, the children with darker skin pigmentation. We end our day learning about children with growth delay, puberty disorders and children who are transitioning gender.
The final day of our conference commences with important updates from the AOBP. We then spend the rest of the day discussing team-based treatments. We have wonderful presentations from the world-renown Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders. We then move on to a session on orthopedics. We will learn about new treatments for scoliosis and will be educated about the basics of braces/devices by an orthotist from the Shriner’s Hospital in Erie, PA. We finish the ortho session with an osteopathic manual medicine lecture focusing on the spine and hips. Lastly, we round out our conference learning about our littlest patients in the NICU and the multidisciplinary approach to their care.
We are so glad that you are joining us again. We strive to continue to provide quality education while you are in the comfort of your homes or offices, and we look forward to seeing you in person in May 2022 at our first LIVE, in-person conference since the pandemic! See you at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida!!!
